  • Benchmarking LLMs with ELO ratings

Let’s get started!

🎬 Video of the week

Sam Altman, the chief executive of ChatGPT’s OpenAI testified before members of a Senate subcommittee on Tuesday about the need to regulate the increasingly powerful artificial intelligence technology being created inside his company. The meeting took 3 hours, but here are the key takeaways:

  1. OpenAI's GPT-4 is a tool designed for tasks, not jobs, and is expected to automate some jobs while creating new ones.

  2. AI technology is still in its early stages and prone to errors. Users need to maintain critical thinking when using these models.

  3. The advent of artificial general intelligence (AGI) could potentially replace a large fraction of human jobs, but we are not close to AGI yet.

  4. Independent testing labs are needed to provide "nutrition labels" for AI models, indicating their reliability.

  5. AI's potential to influence and manipulate people's behavior and beliefs is a significant concern, especially at large scales.

  6. There's a call for a pause on AI deployment until there are good safety cases, but not on AI research and development.

  7. OpenAI, a non-profit, doesn't train on any data submitted to its API and retains data for 30 days for trust and safety enforcement.

  8. Greater transparency is needed about AI models and the data they use, including an enforcement arm to perform tests.

  9. The potential for a few companies to dominate the AI technology space is a concern due to the power these systems have to shape our views and lives.

  10. AI technology has a democratizing potential, with many new businesses being built on top of these models. However, there's a risk of centralization to a few major players.

There is a lot more than that, so here is a good video with the most important parts:

💡 Idea of the week

ChatGPT Plugins are out for all ChatGPT Plus users! Last week, I’ve been playing with them quite a bit. Here’s an example of what you can do - analyzing YouTube videos and automatically generating Notion pages based on the summaries!

🧩 Prompt of the week

This week’s prompt of the week is the Tiny prompt that outputs cute close-up images of animals. However, you can play with it to output whatever you want to!
