Tackling Procrastination

How I started achieving 10x more, so can you!

I was among 99% of people who’d start a new thing

But get stuck and see no progress for months.

But 3 weeks ago, I decided that it was enough.

I made a change.

And the results are shocking!

Here’s how I:

➤ transformed my day and increased productivity by 10x

➤ launched my first AI project, PodcastGPT

opened up collaboration possibilities with bigger creators

➤ hit 1k followers on Twitter

and started making Git commits again

1. Initial hype

It all started in May (3 months ago). My colleagues at work got into LangChain and Retrieval Augmented Generation.

I couldn’t stay behind!

This is why I started researching what could I do with these tools. A genius idea popped into my mind:

➤ creating a Hubermanlab Podcast AI engine

The first few days were great! I made a lot of progress and felt like a champ.

2. Going down

However, after a few days:

➤ my motivation drained

➤ distractions appeared

➤ I stopped making progress! At all!

For the next 2.5 months, I didn’t do anything related to the project!

3. Feeling like a failure

Everybody who abandoned a project knows this feeling.

➤ Waking up with an invisible weight on my chest.

➤ Creating excuses why I cannot code today.

➤ Setting up the time for coding in the calendar. But scrolling Twitter instead of working.

4. The turning point

Three weeks ago, an epiphany came to me. I watched Hamza’s video on discipline.

You should be doing the most critical task as early in the day as possible.

Hamza

I followed his advice:

➤ picked my most important task — finishing PodcastGPT

➤ started going to bed at 10 PM and waking at 6:45 AM

➤ putting in 2 hours of work before my 9–5

➤ no distractions, 50–10 pomodoros

5. The results

Boy, oh, boy — the results surprised me.

In 2 weeks I made 10x more progress than over 2.5 months, no exaggeration.

You’ve already seen the commit history.

But I’ve learned so many technologies these days:

➤ AWS Lambda

➤ Supabase

➤ FastAPI

➤ Railway

And my launch received 139 upvotes on ProductHunt!

6. Conclusion

Anyone can do it, you just have to:

get your sh*t together

set yourself up for success (for me it was early work)

You’ve got this!

This is the third day of the 30-day AI challenge.

Over the next month, I will be building the Lex Fridman AI engine with you!

If you're reading this, I assume you'd like to build things. If you stick to this newsletter you will have a running project after a month and know the necessary technology to build AI apps.

I've recently built PodcastGPT and want to share the process with the community. If you haven't seen the app yet, you can get access here: PodcastGPT.

This is all for now! See you tomorrow.

Stay focused!
