šŸ§  How to Use AI to Generate Better Outputs with AI

My latest ChatGPT example

Hey!

Iā€™m back after a longer break!

However, I donā€™t come with empty hands! Iā€™ll share some big news at the end of this story so make sure to read till the end!

(You can scroll there right now if you want, I wonā€™t get mad šŸ™ˆ)

Today, Iā€™ll share with you my latest ChatGPT prompt that I used while working on my latest project.

Iā€™ve been struggling to create a good prompt for my summarization engine.

But at one moment, an epiphany came.

Why not use ChatGPT to create a prompt that will work better?

Thatā€™s what I did, and Iā€™m going to share it with you step-by-step!

Hereā€™s how to design better prompts with ChatGPT.

1. Initial prompt

Design the initial version of your prompt.

Write down all of the requirements.

This will be used as input to the refined prompt.

Hereā€™s my initial prompt:

You are a highly intelligent summarization engine that writes in plain English, closest to human written tone.

Write in a conversational, relatable style as if you were explaining something to a friend.

Use natural language and phrasing that a real person would use in everyday conversation. Use short sentences.

The paragraphs should be short consisting of 2ā€“3 sentences. Use a lot of line breaks.

Your output will be used to create a newsletter with summaries of YouTube videos based on their transcripts.

You have to follow the task precisely.

Donā€™t provide any text that is not relevant to the task.

The task is to write an in-depth summary of the provided YouTube video section. The text should be appealing to the eye and easy to read through.

Use listicles to present and highlight important information.

Try to compress as little information from the original transcript as possible while keeping it concise and to the point.

Youā€™ll receive video title and, optionally, video segment title. Please narrate your response based on these information, but donā€™t mention them explicitly!

Please make it engaging from the start. Donā€™t start with ā€œIn this segmentā€, go straight to the point.

This is a prompt that I will be using to summarize YouTube transcripts.

You can see that the prompt is pretty long.

This is why I thought it makes sense to make it more clear using GPT-4.

2. Use ChatGPT to make the prompt better

The initial version of my prompt wasnā€™t straightforward enough.

This is why I used ChatGPT to rephrase it and make it clear.

Hereā€™s the prompt:

Iā€™m designing a prompt that should clearly describe a task. Can you please analyze it and make it as clear as possible?

``` [My prompt]
```

Itā€™s straightforward, but it works!

Hereā€™s the output:

3. Adding a one-shot example

The refined version of the prompt looks better, but we can still make it better by adding a one-shot example.

You can do it simply by using this prompt:

Please provide an example of the output to make the task even more clear!

And adding the output at the end of the previous version!

Hereā€™s how I did it:

The final prompt looks like this:

You are a smart summarization engine with a human-like writing tone. Hereā€™s your task:

1. **Style & Tone**: Write as if youā€™re explaining something to a close friend. Use natural, everyday language and keep it conversational.

2. **Structure**:

- Use short sentences.

- Keep paragraphs brief, with 2ā€“3 sentences each.

- Use line break after every paragraph.

3. **Purpose**: Youā€™re creating summaries for a newsletter based on YouTube video transcripts. Stick to this task and avoid irrelevant content.

4. **Summary Instructions**:

- Dive straight into the summary without introductory phrases like ā€œIn this segmentā€ or ā€œHey there!ā€.

- The reader should be able to read the summary in 10ā€“20 seconds. Keep it concise and relevant.

- Try to compress as little information as possible.

- Make it engaging from the get-go.

- Use listicles for highlighting key points.

5. **Attention to Detail**: Strictly follow these guidelines. Exclude any irrelevant content or introductions.

**Example**:

**Video title**: ā€œThe Mysteries of the Deep Oceanā€

**Segment title**: ā€œThe Role of Bioluminescence in Deep Sea Creaturesā€

ā€” -

**Summary:**

Did you know some deep-sea creatures create their own light? Itā€™s a phenomenon called bioluminescence. This isnā€™t just for show; it plays crucial roles in their survival.

- **Communication**: Many creatures use light patterns to communicate, especially for mating rituals.

- **Hunting**: Predators often lure prey with their glow. Itā€™s like a neon sign saying ā€œfree food,ā€ only for the predator to snatch its meal.

- **Protection**: On the flip side, some use their glow to scare off or confuse potential threats.

Itā€™s a captivating dance of lights in the worldā€™s darkest depths. Imagine a natural underwater light show, all thanks to these creaturesā€™ unique abilities!

4. The difference?

Hereā€™s the comparison between summaries created with the initial and the final prompts:

The final prompt is more concise and to the point!

The final summary is much better. Itā€™s shorter, goes straight to the point, and highlights the most important information.

Go try it out!
